How Green Ridge Resort Looks Today

Mountjoy | Colan | Bejowan | Bosoughan | Quintrell Downs | Nansledan | Newquay

According to the developers the proposed Green Ridge Resort site is 67.1 Ha and in the ‘Revised Agricultural Land Classification Report‘ it was stated 51% of the land is Grade 4 (Poor agricultural land. Land with very severe limitations which restrict use to permanent pasture or rough grazing, except for occasional pioneer forage crops).

WE DISAGREE! Take a look for yourself and draw your own conclusions…

The below photos show the harvesting of potatoes in August 2024 on the proposed development land at Mountjoy, Newquay:

SO WHY?

Why do these photos in August 2024 show Grade 3 farming land being harvested for potato crop across 55.2% (37.06 Ha) of the land?

And Spring Barley added a further 33.5% of agricultural crop according to the reclassification report.

In contradiction to the assessed classification in the report, 88.7% (59.54 Ha) of the total 67.1 Ha is being actively farmed for real crops. So, 51% isn’t only suitable to be used as permanent pasture or rough grazing no matter what the developers and consultants state.

DO THESE LOOK LIKE POTATOES TO YOU?

So, ‘sure as potatoes are potatoes’, these fields are being actively farmed for agricultural purposes and are a loss of farming land to Cornwall and food production! They may only be potatoes in these photos but what is fish without chips??

The developer’s submission specifically states: This report is for the sole purpose of the assessment of the land in relation to its suitability for a residential development and should not be used for any other purpose.

The planning application is not for a “residential development” so this report could be considered irrelevant but it still remains that the agriculture merits of this land (and the productivity of surrounding land) is being ignored despite the facts.
